Beatrice Rae Parker (McKenzie, Maxey)

Bea, Berta, Bertie is how I have seen her name in different papers.
She was born as Beatrice Rae Parker - 14 November 1880. Born in the city of Pomery, Washington, United States. Pomery is in the south-east part of the state of Washington. Interesting enough not too far from the cities, Clarkston and Lewiston.

Bertie is my great-grandmother and was married to Fred McKenzie. He died when my grandmother, (Rodetta) was 14. Bertie remarried Fred's best friend, at his request before he died, to William Simpson Maxey.

On January 31, 1900 Bertie and Fred were married, I think in Washington as I do not have a copy of their marriage certificate.
They had two children: Rodetta Freddie McKenzie born 19 Nov 1900 and William Winfield McKenzie born about 1905 in Perze, Idaho.

Bertie and Bill Maxey were happily married for over 30 years!

During her life time she has lived in Washington, Idaho, Canada and California.

She passed on 3 August 1949, in Martinez, California.
She died before I was born, so if you have a story you would like to share, please let me know and I can add it to this blog post.

Today I am putting more pictures of children on.

If this is Christmas time, then I would guess they are living in El Centro, California or Noble, Oklahoma. Picture #9.

Looks like the lady on the porch might be Granny Riggs, and maybe the little girl is the same little girl in the picture above? Picture #10.

Forgotten Foto Friday #4

I have quite a few pictures of children in which I do not know so will post of some them every now and then. Here is a cute picture of a group of 8. Almost looks like this family had one a year for 8-9 years, except the oldest boy looks like he would be at least two years older than the next child.

The McKenzie Line

Here is the only picture I have of my great-grandfather, Frederick Neile McKenzie.
It is of his wedding day 31 January 1900. He was married for only 14 years before he passed on. He knew, according to my Aunt Shirley, that he was dying and ask his best friend, William Maxey, to marry my great-grandmother and take care of their two children. One being my grandmother. William Maxey a year later did marry my great-grandmother and they were married for over 40 years. True friendship, wouldn't you say?
Grandpa Fred and William were in the Spanish-American war and then moved up to the state of Washington, I am thinking to work in the mines in Idaho, as the 1900 Census says he  and William were miners in Elk County, Idaho. He and Beatrice Rae Parker were married 31 January 1900.
Here is the information that I found online through military gravesites:

Fred McKenzie was a First Sergant, Company C, 1st Idaho Inf.  On the grave

stone in Washington it said he died on May 12, 1914.  Grave site #1-D-3

Another lady, Julie, wrote to my grandson this information: Fred Neile McKenzie is buried in Orting at the Washington Soldiers Home and Cemetery.

He was married to the former Miss Beatrice Rae Parker on the 31st of Jan 1900 and had two children, Rodetta & William.
He passed away at the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting, Pierce Co., Washington on 14 May 1914.

Forgotten Foto Friday #3

Today I thought I would add 3 photos, 2 of the babies and one of a mother and daughter.

Billy Lear or Year Picture #3

This is a heavier cardstock and is 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" photo. This is the picture I think is older. Picture #4

In the pictures of the 2 babies, they seem to have the same face, but the way that they are made is different. Are they the same? Let me know what you think. On the bigger picture, on the back does give the name of Billie Lear. or Year, (but looks more like the letter 'L'). Also the two outfits are different. One being fuller than the other. The one that is more fluffy, I would think is a girl and the bigger one with Billie's name on it, I think might a boy. Can someone help me out with this???

This is a photograph of the mother and daughter. On the back it states: "Mamma's Aunt Florence and her daughter taken approx. 1908. Aunt Florence was Grandpa Maupins, sister-in-law." If she is the sister-n-law of a Maupin, then her last name is different. And I don't know what the daughter's name is. Has anyone else seen this picture and know who they are?

 Did look on my family tree, and I do have some women named Florence, but none are married to a Maupin.

Forgotten Foto Friday #2

This photo is on heavy card stock and is split. Wish I new who this lovely lady is. Hopefully someone in my family, as it was with the family photos. I would say this picture is somewhere in the 1890's? The photographer company is Lewis of Eureka, Kansas.
Can you help me out with a name and possible birth date or death date?

Found out who this is! A second cousin's grandmother in which I am not related to.  Elizabeth Bell Richardson, called 'Effie' (1888-1967).  Married Marshall Leroy Brown. Has 2 daughters and 5 sons. One of the daughters became my great-aunt Beatrice Boone, when she married my great-uncle Frank Armstrong. Glad to find out who this lady was, thanks, Candice! Picture #2

My Father

I found some interesting papers on my dad and thought I would share them with my family here. I really don't know where to start, so I will start with this paper of his feeding schedule and formula. You can click on the picture to make it bigger.

I could not image making this and serving it to a baby. Poor tummy.

He was born in Spokane and moved with his family down to Fresno, CA,  and then to Baldwin Park, sometime before 1935, as the last two siblings were born in Los Angeles.
Here is report card from 2nd grade, at 7 years old.

Now I am only showing the inside of the card, so we (his children) can compare ourselves at this age.)

On the right is dad, and left is Uncle Bill. I would say they are now in Baldwin Park, CA. Ages about 10 and 8, here.

Dad told a story once of how he and Uncle Bill would take the shoe polish box and walk to downtown Los Angeles by following the rail tracks and polish mens shoes to earn money at this age. It was over 10 miles one way. I don't know how they did it, but the family needed help with the money they earned.

Interesting that my dad has on a jersey with the number 65. My brother, Kent, his senior year also wore that number.

The last two pictures I found by my surprise on ancestry.com through their high school yearbook section. Needless to say what a joy it was, as we don't have that many pictures of my father when he was younger. At the age of 16, my grandmother gave permission for my father to enter the war and so he didn't  graduate high school but served his country. He did later attend college for many years to work on his work skills.
When I have enough information on his military time, I will add that down the road.
I wanted to end this with a picture from the Covina High School Yearbook, of a citrus orchard and Mt. Baldy 1942.

I think it is a beautiful picture, don't you think so?
